Can you show me a diagram for the correct way to use shad darts?
I am not familiar with shad darts or the way they are used. Can you show me an illustration of some sort? Also, if I am going to be fishing the American River for the American shad, what would be a good color combo?
I have heard that the weight of the dart head will be sufficient, then I was also told that the dart is tied to a 2 foot leader with a sliding 1 ounce weight on the other end… what is the deal? Thanks.
Caunltd, I will be at the end of Fruitridge at the “minnow hole”. Are you famliar with that area?
red head, white body. Chartruese head, pink body. Both are producers for me on the AR.
I’ve found that most of the time you are better off using a little shot on the line as opposed to just the weight of the jig, but that’s mainly because I’m using 1/8 and 1/16oz jigs. I wouldn’t use heavier, regardless of what you’re told. If the bite is off, the smaller presentations, even down to 1/32, can prove to get hits.
Either rigging with shot and bouncing and jigging it over the bottom, or rigging with a float is preferred on the AR.
Where are you going to be? That actually makes a difference when you’re out there. I have better luck with different methods in different places on the American.
EDIT: Yes, I know where you’re talking about. I also know that’s not the American – that’s the Sac. lol
