Ankle Holster

Ankle Holster
Is a Glock 19 9mm to big to carry concealed? What would be the best type of holster?

I recently purchased a Glock 19 and was contemplating the possibilities for carrying it concealed. I’m 6’2″ 220lbs and my wardrobe consists mainly of jeans and t-shirts. I’m not crazy about carrying on my ankle, but I’m not seeing many options. Any advice on where to carry my Glock and what type of holsters work best would be greatly appreciated.

The 19 is adaquate for legal concealed carry. (If you dont have it, get a license). There is no one universal great holster. I would NOT advise an ankle rig for a gun the size of the 19, i dont adivse ankle rigs unless its either a back-up or you spend a lot of time seated, like a desk job or driving.

I am a fan of IWB (inside waist band) holsters. Main issue is that you need your pants to be about a size larger to accomidate the thickness of the pistol. There are many out there, but i strongly suggest you get one specifically designed to holster the glock, as you want good fitment and a completely enclosed trigger guard. Avoid nylon, it doesnt last very well. I prefer leather to kydex, its more comfortable.

I would advise you read up on concealed carry, pick up a copy of The Concealed Handgun Manual by chris bird or The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry by Massad Ayoob. They both offer a fairly complete discussion of holsters and related topics.

A good IWB design is the Milt Sparks summer special (google) or a variant of it. Keep in mind that you need a thick sturdy belt that is fairly rigid. Sometimes Ebay is a good source for holsters, just make sure you know exactly what you are buying. Make sure the holster is MADE FOR the glock 19, not just FITS glock 19. Ask questions and look closely at the pics. Expect to pay $50-75 for a decent ebay holster. Some good brands: Bianchi, Galco, DM Bullard, Milt Sparks, Uncle Mike’s (decent). There are many more… Historically, my best and favorite holsters are made by small shops like DM bullard. The detail and overall quality are usually always better than mass made holsters. Of course, so is the cost…..

Above all, make sure youre being legal, and practice often. The 19 is a fine carry pistol for a guy your size.
