Belt Black

Belt Black
How long does a black belt take to get?

How long does it take for a casual clinic take to teach you karate? I mean by that a black belt?

I think the it’s either once or twice a week and like three hours a session.

‘Black Belt’ is just the beginning as there are generally 10 grades within the rank but to attain First degree or First Dan should generally be 4-6 years if you are regular in your training 2-3 times a week and have the aptitude. Less tends to be in the modern sport / commercial type schools though I have known one or two people in 40+ years of training that deserved it in 3. Though training can and should last a lifetime to attain the first level of black shouldn’t take much beyond what I previously mentioned students are one way you gauge an instructor as well, some give out black belts like they were free and that tends to be about what they are worth others maintain the standards of training and it takes at least 4-6 years to assimilate the core basics of a system. If after 6-10 years a student hasn’t been promoted to beginning level black belt then something is missing either in the student or in the instructor.
IMHO
