Bicycle Road
What is the difference between a Triple and Compact Road Bicycle?

Also I would like to spend around $1500 or little less on a road bike, have any good ones you can recomend? Sorry new to the road scene, have an Epic Mt Bike, so have been mt biking for a while.

I have a Trek 520 that comes stock with a 30/42/52 triple chainring and a Trek Madone 5.9 with 53/39 chainrings. I have climbed Whiteface Mountain in Upstate NY with both bikes (8 miles 8.3% average gradient.

The 520 would be near the upper end of your price range. The Madone I bought used off eBay and got a very good deal (I never could have afforded it new!) You might be able to find some good deals.

I rarely use the inner chainring on the triple, but for super steep climbs, it’s nice to have when you need it. I don’t have any shifting problems with the triple. The 520 is more of a touring bike; I use it mostly for commuting. The Madone I ride mostly on the weekends and competitive riding.

They also have a dealer locator feature to find a dealer near you.

Most of the Trek road bikes come with the option of a double or triple chainring setup.
