How can I touch up a scratch on a rifle barrel with a black matte finish ?
How big of a scratch are we talking, and what kind of finish is already on the barrel? If it is blued, as most are, you can get a cold blueing touch up kit, but they can be difficult to match to the original finish, especially if it is faded.
I’ve touched up small scratches with a sharpie marker more than once, but only in spots where it won’t be obvious and only if it is a very small scratch. The downside is that you won’t get the same corrosion protection as you do with bluing and the upside is that it is a cheap fix.
There are other methods of finishing a gun as well, but this is the most common. For a more specific answer, we’ll need more specific info about your particular gun.
