What kind of archery bow should i buy?
i don’t really know anything about bows or archery buy i want to get into it. should i get compound or recurve? where should i buy it? which brand? etc.
That would depend on what you want to do and what you’re like. I know people who just can’t use a compound. Some people are just wired differently. So here’s the breakdown, there are 3 main types of bows, you have compound, barebow and olympic recurve. You already know the compound, barebow can be a recurve or longbow, the distinction between the barebow and the olympic recurve is that olympic recurve is a recurve bow with a sight.
So, now it goes to, do you like gadgets or not. If you like gadgets and you don’t mind spending the money, then compound is the bow for you. If you don’t really like gadgets, and want things simple then go for the barebow recurve. If you want real challenge, go for barebow recurve. If you want to go to the Olympics, the only route is the olympic recurve.
Then what do you want to do with the bow, if you want to get a bow and be out hunting within a month or less, go compound. Where to buy is a good question. I no longer like sending new people to archery stores, as there are just too many macho sales people in this business, new people tend to end up with bows that are way too heavy for them. My suggestion is to go to a range and see if you can borrow their bow first. Get your body used to this sport, and gather more information about what you want to do with the sport, then go out and with that knowledge buy equipment.
