Leashes, Collars and Harnesses
What kind of leashes, collars or harnesses do you use on a daily basis?
(Flat, braided or round leather, flat nylon, slip lead, prong/pinch collar, choke chain, martingale collar, etc.)
Do you know what the intended use is for the tools your use and the materials they’re made of?
(Temporary training aid, comfort, safety, durability, control, correction, etc.)
Is there a specific activity the equipment you use is intended for?
Do you know what kinds of activities or what kinds of dogs this equipment is NOT recommended for?
Do you understand how to use this equipment, including proper fitting and positioning?
At home, my dogs are nekkid.
For travel, White Pine soft half-slip collars with tags. Love these collars, because the dogs can’t slip out of them, and they provide control.

For sledding:
1″ nylon half-slip collars. I choose these for comfort, durability and safety — again, it is nearly impossible for a dog to back out of these collars, but they don’t tighten enough to choke.

ADD: Oh..and, of course, X-back racing harnesses!

For training:
Well-fitted choke chain or prong collar, depending on the need. Used for control and correction. I’m very well aware of how these collars need to fit for maximum impact with minimal correction.
Also, a 4-ft. leather lead.
For dog shows:
Diamond-link (“snake”) or jeweler’s link choke chain, various widths. I use these for control, a bit “dressier” than your average choke chain and not as easy to see against the dog’s coat. Like a regular choke, should fit high and snug on the dog’s neck.

I’m also a fan of the thin, braided kangaroo leather show leads.
