It’s Hard To Dispute That The Guitar Is Extremely Cool

Among musical instruments, the age-old battle between the drum set and the guitar rages on. There’s a primal feeling about bashing on a drum set but there’s a more sublime satisfaction when learning to play any kind of guitar, acoustic or electric, really well. The question among men always is, when it comes to instruments; ‘Is the guitar the coolest musical instrument of all?’

No, the typical guitar has inspired more men to become master air guitarists or even actual guitarists than the thought of becoming a superstar baseball player has inspired more than a few sandlot players to keep up with the sport. Consider one of those huge dreadnought acoustic guitar setups. The thing looks big, but it plays beautifully and women dig it, right?

Besides, women really seem to dig men who can play a musical instrument and especially men who can appear to be masters of the guitar. Actually, they may not really like the guy playing the guitar but the sounds coming from it can go a long way towards helping them get over the pushy guy doing the playing. In truth, most men never become that good but all of them believe that they can, so they have that going for them, fortunately.

Take a moment to consider one of those very nice acoustic guitars like maybe an Alvarez acoustic guitar. It’s made with precision and beauty and many men go weak in the knees at the thought of learning enough to be able to play it well. Realistically, only one in 1000 men will ever really be able to do so, but they have their fantasies and this particular one is generally harmless.

Over the last half-century, guitars of all types have come to dominate cultural awareness when it comes to music. Probably, Chuck Berry and his wild playing in the late 50s can be most blamed for the phenomenon. But even somebody sitting around with an acoustic guitar and a lot of classical guitar training will admit that he gets a thrill from playing the opening riff to ‘Johnny B. Goode.’

And that’s the ultimate attraction to the guitar; because playing it — whether sitting down with a very expensive Takamine acoustic guitar or a nice electric axe — is nothing but fun. And when somebody really gets good, and is able to pick up a nice Gibson Les Paul and start wailing on it, the world is truly their oyster.

Taken altogether, it’s hard to dispute that the guitar holds a prime place in the world of music. Certainly, it grabs hold of many boys and men in a way that even the most beautiful leather baseball glove can never do. There’s just something about picking up a guitar, no matter if it’s an acoustic or an electric, that helps people feel better about themselves and about the people around them, and that’s a good thing in the end.
