When did Campagnolo make 7-speed Nuovo Record?
I just bought a sweet 80′s Pinarello a couple weeks ago that has a mix of Nuovo Record and Gran Sport components. I’m trying to identify the year. There is no serial number, just “Pinarello” stamped in the bottom bracket housing, which is not much help. It has a Nuovo Record 7-speed rear derailleur. What years did Campy make a 7-speed NR? It shifts by friction only (no indexed option).
I know that a non indexed Nuovo Record derailleur had enough range to use a 7 speed as early as 1974, perhaps earlier, even though most bikes of the time were 5 or 6 speed. I also know that Zeus sold 7 speed freewheels starting about 1973 and all of their Criterium and 2000 models had the capacity to use them so the technology was there.
There should be a number cast into the derailleur body that will identify the year of manufacture.
