Casting Fly

Casting Fly
Is it okay to fly with a cast iron sculpture as a carry on item?

My fiancĂ© is about to fly home from an iron casting conference with two sculptures he created, weighing 25 and 35 lbs a piece, but small in size and would fit in a small carry on bag. He plans to take these as his “personal item” when he returns home, but I’m concerned that he will have to check his bags.

Does anyone know if it is okay to carry on cast iron or heavy sculptures on a flight without checking them? I believe he is flying Delta.

Unlikely. And if you are not allowed to bring the item in your carry on, you will have to check it or throw it away. You would do better to send it by FedEx. Also, at 60 lbs, they are too heavy to be carry on.
