CompM3 And CompML3 Red Dot Sights
Since 1975 Aimpoint has become synonymous with the red dot sight. So diagnostic is Aimpoint’s red dot aiming point that any ‘Aimpoint’ equipped with any other color or shape of aiming point can instantly be verified as counterfeit. Over 1,000,000 Aimpoints of two generations have now been bought by the American Military. The Aimpoint’s accuracy, speed and ruggedness made this a ‘no brainer’. A water pressure test depth of 45 meters testifies to their ruggedness and hermetic sealing. The CompM3 comes with a rubber cover, available in Black or coyote brown to further protect it, but this is really only to protect the finish as the sight itself is practically indestructible. Replacement covers can be purchased.
The Aimpoint CompM3 is an improved version of the CompM2 which had been type classified by the US Army as their M68 CCO. The chief difference is the use of Aimpoint’s ACET battery life improvement technology which boosts the life of the N-cell battery CompM3 up to an amazing 50,000 hours on setting 7 out of 10 (500,000 on NV setting). The CompM3 is ideal for Gen III NV systems but will work well with all generations. There are ten settings, 6 for day use and 4 for night vision compatible use. For sports shooters and hunters not needing a night vision compatible sight, Aimpoint offer the less expensive CompML3 red dot sight.
A huge array of mounts are available for these 30mm tube sights. Both the Aimpoint 3XMag 3X Magnifier and the Eotech G23 magnfier can be used to extend the engagement range of these sights threefold. 2 and 4 MOA versions are available, the former better for closer engagements and the 2 MOA offering a little more longer range precision.
At ranges beyond 50 meters the Comp M3 is completely parallax free, making it completely insensitive to shooting position or cheek weld. The brightest setting will cope with the highest levels of sunlight in the tropics. There are no lasers to harm your eyes or give away your position and the field of view is uninhibited. Aimpoint have their own patented coating that only reflects the exact frequency of the dot and letting other light frequencies straight through. This prevents the blue background color seen in some other red dot sights. Although super rugged, this sight is very light for its size – a mere 7.8 ouncesd or 220 grammes. Unlimited eye relief means the sight can be mounted anywhere on your rail, enabling you to place other items on your rail with great flexibility.
This sight can be used for any purpose you can turn a rifle, carbine or shotgun to at short to medium ranges – even wing shooting. It is hard to imagine a better sight for turkey hunting. In Europe it is popular or running boar and moose. These sights are ideally suited to law enforcement or close protection applications.
