Differences Between Horse Bridles
Like saddles, horse bridles are one of the pieces of equipment necessary for domesticated horses, but there variations. english saddles Dressage competition, for instance, requires a bridle that must be deftly worked, whereas other models are designed for the horse’s comfort.
Three kinds of equestrian bridles include the double bridle, the bitless bridle and the comfort bridle. For formal competition, double bridles are typically used, but they are also called dressage bridles.
A horse bridle is used to direct a horse when it is mounted. saddlery Bridles consist of a headstall and reins. The bit is the piece that goes into the horse’s mouth and is contained in the headstall. With bitless bridles, of course, the bit is absent.
The double bridle or dressage bridle uses two bits. Weymouth bridles are another name for them. The two bits are called the snaffle and the curb. In dressage, these are known as the bradoon and the Weymouth. Controlling a double bridle requires two sets of reins – one per bit. For that reason, they are really only used by equestrian experts in saddle seat riding, dressage competitions, and other events where form and style are judged.
The bitless bridle, at the other extreme, is just that: a bridle without any bit. fly rugs One type is known as the hackamore, a type of bridle that uses pressure on the horse’s face to steer. Instead of a bit, it uses a nosepiece – a strap of leather that goes over the snout of the horse. The reins pull on either side to steer the animal. Requiring a different touch, bitless bridles are common in endurance and trail riding.
The comfort bridle is designed to make the wearing of a bridle more pleasant for the horse. Features of the comfort bridle include additional padding on the nosepiece, around the ears and under the chin. To ease the discomfort to the horse from pulling on the reins, comfort bridles are usually made from very soft leather in addition to the abovementioned features.
