Why do small drinks at McDonalds cost more than their extra large ones?

Their small drinks cost about $.99 but their extra large cost about $.75. I have always wondered why they charge less for a larger soda. Anyone have an idea?

I’m pretty sure the small drink is cheaper than the large drink INDIVIDUALLY. But they make it very cheap to supersize your meal because the french fries and sodas cost hardly anything for them so if they can get you to pay a dollar or two more for products that cost around $.30 then they are making a profit. I used to work at restaurant and they said a fountain drink costs $.28 so the rest is markup
