what exactly is “finnessing” a worm?
Not sure if I have the Lingo right on this, but I have heard people talk about finessing a worm or jig…. what the heck is it? could I get a good detail descrip. or maybe a website.
“finesse” fishing was developed in ultra clear western reservoirs. was used extensively in so cal and has become a regularly used tactic in any clear water or heavily pressured lake.
generally done with light 4 to 6 pound tackle with small weights and hooks as explained by charlie. hooks even dropping as small as size 4. some tru-turn splitshotting hooks f’rinstance.
drop shot fishing is a finesse tactic as is shaking and split-shotting.
l still use B/C tackle most of the time because l have a better drag and more control of my fish with baitcasting gear. l use 8lb quality nylon mono by either maxima or sufix. curado and daiwa TDX reels, as well as one ardent which l have had for a relatively short while. the reels are well matched with quality rods and my casting does not suffer.
l also finesse fish with tiny topwaters like a rico or an xcalibur zell pop in 1/4oz. l work these slowly, causing them to make the shortest movements and just the right amount of pop and gurgle. in clear, shallow water, l don’t want to spook fish by starting off with a big, noisy topwater.
