How to mount a scope on the Savage Mark II-F 22LR?

On savage’s website it says that this rifle is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. What do I have to buy to SECURELY mount a scope on this rifle?

I want to mount the Bushnell Banner 4-12×40 rifle scope on the Savage Mark II-F 22LR.
I need to know what mounts and rings I will need to buy to mount the scope on the “drilled and tapped” mounts.

Anyone have experience mounting a scope on this rifle?

The drilled and tapped holes are industry standard. You need to know the diameter of the scope’s body tube in order to know which rings to use. Ask either Savage or Bushnell which scope base(s) this rifle will accept.

By the way, a 4-12X scope is one heck of a lot of scope for a 22 Long Rifle caliber gun. What are you shooting – metallic silhouette @ 100 + yards? Personally, I wouldn’t use a variable power scope, of any kind, on a 22 caliber rifle. (But, I don’t shoot match competition with a bull barrel and Eley ammunition.) I used to use a fixed, 6X power scope with a 1″ diameter tube. It was too powerful and the field of view was too limited. 25 years ago I took it off my 22 and replaced it with a fixed 4X power scope.

In the ensuing quarter century I’ve never had any reason to remove that 4X scope; and I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of shots I’ve missed. (All fired inside 100 yards – Which is, in my opinion, the maximum distance for the kind of high-precision shooting I like to do with a 22 Long Rifle.)

Just so you know: With a standard barrel – like the one you’re buying – after about 80 yards, 22 LR accuracy really starts to suffer. Consequently, unless you have some sort of vision problem, 12X is way, ‘overkill’.
