Colorado Fly Fishing – The Best in America

When looking for fly fishing, people will discover that some of the finest can be found within the United States, specifically Colorado.  This one state has built such a strong reputation for fly fishing that it is generally the first state people think of.  For anyone interested in fishing for the largest and best, Colorado is known for offering some of the finest places around.

When it comes to Colorado fly fishing, one of the greatest places to visit is known as the Frying Pan River, which is located near the beautiful area of Aspen.  There, people will find access to the river easy and the overall surroundings stunning.  The most popular trout found in this area include brown, cutthroat, and of course, rainbow.  The many hatches around the area are in full operation all year, making Colorado fly fishing something enthusiasts can do whenever they like.

Colorado offers so many wonderful places to fish within the Aspen area, another called the Roaring Fork.  Unlike other rivers, this one is unique in that the river is large and powerful yet it offers gentle, smaller flowing areas.  Known for being full of wild trout and within easy access via the Rio Grande Trail, this is indeed one of the finest locations.

At the Roaring Fork, people can also fish all year long like they can at the Frying Pan River location.  This river has some of the finest rainbow trout around although wild brook is also an occasional treat.

Many years ago, pioneers traveling in areas of the West would use the North Platte River to their advantage.  This river was a place where buffalo would go to drink, allowing Indians the chance to hunt, along with fish, which is one of the ways in which Colorado fly fishing became known.  In this part of Northwestern Colorado, experts actually rate the river as being excellent for gold metal.  However, the trout fished in the North Platte River and its mesmerizing scenery is what most people enjoy most.

Outside of the Vail area is the Colorado River, flowing down through the majestic Rocky Mountain National Park.  This particular river is huge, being quite wide and deep but it also has smooth flowing water.  The shores are lined with towering cottonwood trees, making this an ideal place for the trout to hide, especially brown trout.  Therefore, for anyone who wants great Colorado fly fishing, the Colorado River is one of the best places to visit.

Another area is in the Southwest where the Arkansas River flows, also outstanding for catching trout.  While fishing is great all year, the mid-winter and spring months are the best.  However, every year around Mother’s Day, the caddis are known for hatching.  This means that brown trout have lots to eat, forcing them from their secret places and becoming easy to fish for.

These are only a few of the places where fly fishing in Colorado is plentiful.  The countryside is gorgeous and the fish plentiful.  There are also lots of great lodges that accommodate fly fishermen on a year-round basis.  Colorado Fly fishing might be the piece de resistance for many fishermen.  Check out this great state and enjoy your adventure!
