On a gun safe, would you rather have an electronic lock, or a combination (dial) lock?
I’m considering the purchase of a new gun safe. The model I’m looking at is available with an electronic lock or a combination (dial) lock. What are some of the pros and cons to owning a gun safe with either kind of locking system? I know an electronic lock will allow me to change the code, but batteries do run out. A combination lock always works, but I can’t change the code. Your thoughts?
A little bit of common sense here…
I know for certain that combination locks on safes have been around for over 150 years. Some old safes that are 150 years old are still functional today.
How long have electronic locks been around? From my limited knowledge of electronics, I know that they all go bad at some point. Radios, televisions, computers, even old telephones.
Imagine living in a humid area. Don’t you think that the humidity will oxidize the wiring and circuts on an electronic lock?
I have both, and can tell you that I prefer the dial comibination lock. My dial combo lock safes also have a key feature on the dial that allows me to lock the dial so people can’t even turn it to try to mess with my safes.
