I have a flatscreen and concerned about brownouts. Do I need a UBS backup if i have a Panamax serge protector
I hear conflicting stories to each person I ask about how to make sure my tv does not get damaged during a brownout or blackout. I live up in the mountains and our power can go in an out often in a short period of time. I was told I just needed a really good serge protector but then told i need a ubs power backup. Any harm in getting both? Hooking up the ubs and plugging the serge protector into that? Would that be the best thing to do? Any other suggestions?
The simple answer is that it is a good idea. I have found that the investment in a surge suppressor is always a good idea. And now with the prevalence of electronics that need to go into a standby and shutdown procedure home theater based UPS’s are a great option.
Remember why did sales of UPS for computers go thru the roof a few years ago? It was because people found out it was bad not to soft shut down their PCs, I wasn’t they needed to quickly work thru a critical file or do a save ( not that these aren’t valid reasons to get one).
The owners manual on LCD and Plasma TVs will warn you not to interrupt the power suddenly. It stands to reason then since the manufacture in essence is saying this thing is picky about how it is powered, you should get a UPS.
Plus the value of a connected equipment warranty on such a expensive item is worth the investment. The link below is to a manufacture who has always been a part of any system I design and has Always been reliable and stands behind their product.
DO NOT buy this from any big box store ( BB or CC or GG/compusa) since they use pressure tactics to get you to buy. I much rather would like to understand how this is a benefit than to be told this TV you are going to buy could blow up at any second!
In closing don’t make a purchase unless you are informed of what you really need, and what is a performance enhancer.
Find a alternate retailer and make sure they know what they are talking about or call monster they have a great team of help specialist who may have the ideal solution for you already picked out.
