Do horse owners kick horses in mouth and head when not following instruction?
My 9 year old granddaughter is being made, by her Aunt and Grandma, to kick her horse in the mouth with her boot when she is riding and it is not following her instructions. Then she is being told to kick the horse in the head with her boot while it is tied up behind the trailer and bends down to eat grass. She comes home sobbing and is so afraid of the two women she can’t seem to say no! She says it feels so wrong!
If it feels wrong then yes it is. You should never kick a horse in the head or the mouth, even if they are not following instruction. There are plenty of other solutions to fix a horse that does not listen. Kicking, is not one of them. I am assuming you are her grandfather, don’t you have some say in this? You’re an adult as well, why don’t you talk to her aunt and grandmother about how wrong that is. Not only that but how awful your granddaughter feels. I’m sure if they care about her, perhaps they will see the ways of their wrong, when they see how upset she is. You can suggest to lunge the horse if it misbehaving. But kicking will not help at all, it will only make the horse trust your granddaughter less.
