Kamikaze Big

Kamikaze Big
Why do bugs splatter different colours ?

I’m just back from a 3 hour road trip where I had nothing to do but stare at bugs going kamikaze at my windshield.

There were big green splotches, juicy yellow smears, clear watery streaks and little hard ones that went boink and left a small brown dot…

I know it’s silly, but now I’m wondering… All human (make that; all animal) blood is red. So what’s the deal with bug’s insides being all different colours ???

Humans have red blood cells that carry oxygen; the red color is from the iron in hemoglobin.
However, the insect circulatory system does not carry oxygen; rather, it carries food and hormones. Insects breathe through spiracles and the oxygen is carried through tubes that go throughout their body (that is why their bodies are small). Since insect blood does not carry oxygen it can be varying colors depending on the pigments of the plants the insect eats.
