Experiencing the Fun of Colorado Fly Fishing
When looking for fly fishing, people will discover that some of the finest can be found within the United States, specifically Colorado. This one state has built such a strong reputation for fly fishing that it is generally the first state people think of. For anyone interested in fishing for the largest and best, Colorado is known for offering some of the finest places around.
The Frying Pan River is well-known as one of the best Colorado fly fishing rivers in the entire state. This is a beautiful river with easy access. Located just outside of Aspen, the Frying Pan is host to a variety of trout including rainbow, brown and cutthroat. There are year-round hatches making fly fishing in any season possible for the avid fisherman.
Of course, there are many wonderful places in Colorado, another in the same Aspen region known as the Roaring Fork. Then, the North Platte River was one that pioneers used to make their way West. The pioneers would hunt buffalo that made their way to the water for drinking, and fish the abundant waters. Because of this, Colorado fly fishing became widespread. Another fascinating aspect of this river is that experts agree this area of Northwestern Colorado has gold in the water too. Of course, the North Platte River is most loved for its impressive countryside, as well as its incredible trout fishing.
In the Vail area, you can fish the Colorado River which is located in the Rocky Mountain National Park. This is a river that is mostly wide and deep with a gently moving current. Cottonwood trees line the shore providing many hiding spaces for the brown trout that are abundant in this water.
Another area is in the Southwest where the Arkansas River flows, also outstanding for catching trout. While fishing is great all year, the mid-winter and spring months are the best. However, every year around Mother’s Day, the caddis are known for hatching. This means that brown trout have lots to eat, forcing them from their secret places and becoming easy to fish for.
These are only a few of the places where fly fishing in Colorado is plentiful. The countryside is gorgeous and the fish plentiful.
