Best Female Specific FR/Trail Saddle? Shes a trail rider but a fairly BIG girl…Any Suggestions?
Hey, I have this friend who’s really trying to get in shape… She’s over 200lbs definately and I seemed to have gotten her addicted to MTB. She just saw her gyno the other day and she noticed that she was a little red down there. She’s a cyclist herself and recommended a women’s specific saddle… ALSO, shes a pretty big girl and she stripped the threads on her stock crap seatpost so that’s a great excuse to get a new post too lol. So any suggestions? She’s more into comfort I’m sure but I also want something nice performance wise so she can take full advantage of it as she starts to slim down. Please help!
Redness is kinda normal for girls after riding, even when they aren’t overweight and have been riding bikes for awhile. If it’s bothering her, some of the saddles (men’s or women’s versions, whichever fits her best) with the cutouts might help. Getting her to raise up off the saddle frequently can help a little, too, so she isn’t sitting all the time. There’s no way to tell how you like a saddle until you actually ride it, but have her shop around and maybe sit on floor model bikes to see if there’s a few that feel the best to her.
As for seatposts, if she wants a really bombproof post, get her a Funn. Most bike shops can order them from distributors, and http://www.ride-this.com or Jenson were both stocking them last year (haven’t looked lately). It’s available in limited sizes, though. The clamp head is amazing on that post….I use it on my urban bike and believe me, you won’t ever break it or strip it out. The Race Face posts are also pretty strong….so far the cheaper xc post from them is holding up to a 300# friend of mine. Thomson posts are pretty dang strong, too, even for as light as they are. (and hey, on the off chance she needs a 30.9mm size, I have a black Syncros post that I’d love to get rid of….brand new in the box, ordered the wrong size last year and the shop wouldn’t let me return it. Sweet post, very light, and two-bolt adjustment. I got the same one in the right size for that bike and have been happy with it. Msg me if you’re interested.)
Good for you for getting her on the trails. It’s cool to see people get excited about riding!
