what is the best fly for bream, bass, trout, salmon, or pike?
i have almost any kind of fish near me and dont care what kind i catch
This is largely a matter of opinion. However, I would say that the best flies for these fish in my opinion would be. . .
Bream: Adams dry fly, ant imitations, any small generic nymphs.
Bass: If you are talking about largemouth bass, probably wooley buggers or poppers (deer hair or foam). If you are talking about smallmouth bass, probably the same stuff, Clouser minnows, or crayfish imitations.
Trout: it varies from stream to stream, species to species, and depending on the time of year. Wooley buggers will usually work along with general insect imitations such as Adam’s dry fly, hares ear nymph etc. As with all species you should try to match your fly with whatever prey items are most available in your area particularly those that fish seem to be eating more than others.
I haven’t really fished for salmon or pike, but I would say find a general imitation that represents whatever food source is common in your area that each species seems to eat more of.
Basically, starting out fishing for a species that you are not familiar with try to stay pretty general in your fly selection, don’t overthink it, and check out local fishing reports to see what works well in your area.
Hope this helps.
