Which freshwater reel is the best to put on a 6 ft. Shimano Solara rod?
My son fishes for bass and trout and goes about 3 times/week in the summer. I just bought him a Shimano Solara 6 ft. baitcasting rod, but there are sooo may types of reels. I don’t know what ‘rear drag’ is, or any of the other lingo. I just want to get him a nice smooth reel for casting (he uses night crawlers and sometimes lures) and nice & smooth on the reel in. Most fish caught are 1 – 5 lbs. Please help me out with anything you can tell me about this or about the lingo. Thank you!
I would also like to keep it under $50.00, if at all possible.

My advise would be to spend a little extra money and buy the Pfluefer Echelon, a little extra money, but a well made reel that should last him a LONG time.
Added….She asked for help on a “BAIT CASTING ROD” not a spinning rod, so all of you that gave advise on spinning reels goofed.
