Should I get a sinker mold?
I keep buying sinkers.
I can get a mold for over $30
that makes 1, 1.5,2,2.5 and 3oz sinkers.
That’s all I need. Then I have to choose either storm sinkers
or pyramid sinkers but I’ve never tried storm sinkers so I’m not sure.
I’m a big fan of storm sinkers. A buddy pours them for me. The advantage is you can use a little lighter weight than a pyramid and they still hold. They are also more snag resistant than pyramid. They cost more though so pouring them is a good choice.
Stay away from wheel weights for your lead supply. About half of their weight is impurities. A better source can be found in lead pipes or flashing. If you have a friend that is a plumber or contractor you can have them keep an eye out for them.
I played around some with making bank sinkers. My mold sucked so I never got very many good results. A Coleman stove is a good source of heat for melting. Just be sure to do this out side or with proper ventilation. Wear some good leather gloves and safety glasses too.
