Why do you have to push harder on the pedals of a single-speed bike to start it moving than to keep it moving?

Why do you have to push harder on the pedals of a single-speed bike to start it moving than to keep it moving at a constant velocity?

Check Newton’s 2nd. law. The greater the mass, the greater force that is required to accelerate it to speed. Once at speed, only sufficient force to maintain it in motion against forces of friction/ air resistance is required.
