Spoons Fishing

Spoons Fishing
good spoons for catching pike at a river and at a large weedy lake?

hi i am a consistant trout fisher but i’ve been looking for a new type of fish to catch, and i’ve chosen pike as they are quite big but i don’t know much about them, i’ve researched a little bit and i got a few good spoons for them but i need a good suggestion especialy since christmas is coming up and im gonna right down the fishing hooks i want and hope somebody gets me them, be descriptive if you want best answer!

The Daredevil has probably caught more pike than all other lures combined…that said, I hardly ever use them :)

I like crankbaits, like the Rapala (size J-13 or J-18), because you can troll with them and they maintain a steady depth (usually 4-5 feet deep). Colors would be silver/black in clear water. Stained water colors would be orange, or fire-tiger.

In weedy lakes, spinnerbaits are a great option. You can use bass-sized spinner baits (I would add a stinger hook), or buy some slightly larger spinner baits (1/2 oz. to 1 oz. or bigger). Again, natural colors in clear water (white, silver) and bright colors in stained water. I would also add a rubber twister tail grub on the back hook for more action

The Chatter Bait is a great pike lure in weedy water…get the largest sizes you can find (3/8 oz?). Colors would be the same as spinner baits.

One of my all-time favorite baits is the Bass Assassin. It’s a rubber minnow that you rig up with a large plastic worm hook. The basic rule for colors is the same again (clear = natural, stained = brighter colors)

With all of these, make sure you have a good steel leader (black nylon-coated leaders are my preference)

Good luck…hopefully you’ve been a good boy and get more than a lump of coal in your stocking this Christmas :)
