Inside of my stainless steel water bottle smells metallic and has thin layer of clear film inside?
What is that film? Bacteria? How do I remove the smell? I was the bottle daily in lukewarm/hot water with dishwashing liquid. This has only helped a little. I am soaking it in dishwashing liquid right now, with the bottle closed.
You need to periodically wash the water bottle in hot water, something above 140 degrees F. The film layer could be algae, it could be bacteria, it could be mineral. Bleach will kill the bacteria, but does nothing for mineral deposit. If you are trying to reduce your exposure to chlorine, use hydrogen peroxide instead. Then use the sink sprayer or a bottle brush to reduce the amount of mineral depostis initially, but vinegar can be used to break those loose a bit, rinse it well. If you use dish soap at all, follow that up with vinegar to cut the soap film.
A clean stainless container may to some people have a metallic taste, this is just something that happens. Tiny amounts of the stainless steel component metals get disolved, and some people have taste buds sensitive enough to taste them. and by tiny, I am talking parts per billion to parts per 10 billion. All of them you would normally get from drinking well water tap water or spring water depending on source anyway. Municipal water may tend to be the real issue though because the amount of chlorine that is added to the water can also actively react with the component metals of stainless steel, which can corrode under certain circumstances.
