how to catch minnows in a deep lake?
i live on a lake with no natural shoreline, just bulkheads that drop straight off into deep water. we also have a dock that juts out into the lake about 10 feet. i bought a minnow trap from gander mtn. but it hasn’t worked. i put crackers in there & they all floated out, and i didn’t know what level to put it at – on the bottom, on the top or suspended somewhere in between. i have a rectangular wire trap i catch small bait perch in but haven’t gotten any minnows in this either. are minnows hard to catch? any ideas?
if none of those other ways work than you could always just lantern…..You just have to hand a lantern off your dock a couple feet above the water at night time. After around 15 minutes bugs will all come in and shortly after that the minnows will come to feed on them. You will be able to net tons of baitfish and it wouldnt hurt to put a couple on hooks and drop them in because bigger fish follow the bait fish.
