Tahiti Custom

Tahiti Custom
So me and my friend want to sail to Tahiti from Sydney.?

We are both 19 and don’t know much about sailing though. But this is kind of a dream that we want to accomplish in maybe 5 years.

I have some questions.

Will 4 years be enough training if we are doing it a lot and take lots of practice runs to closer destinations?

What kind of boat will we need and what cost are we looking at?

What happens with customs and passports etc?

google “Latitude 38″ it is monthly mag for sailors.
Has a lot of info and stories from real sailors.
And I agree a 4 year time line is way too long.
A year should give time to learn.
As stated above ,you could get a couple sailing dingy`s
OR,,, You can just buy a old cheap fiberglass 25 footer for few hundred dollars.
You will have to do some work on it ,that is how you learn about boats.
You work on it.
Fix the rigging, paint the bottom, put in good order.
It doesn’t cost alot, mostly labor for a small boat like that.
Then after you have it all good and “ship shape ” and have used it to learn to sail. You can then sell it for more than you paid for it and apply that to your Tahiti boat.
Now start looking for that really cheap glass sail boat this week.
You will be surprised how little $ you can buy an unwanted neglected boat for.
And sail that around on weekends. It is big enough to spend the night on, bring some (supplies ;) and a babe.
