How to Tie Dye with out the color smearing?
We tie Dyed shirts at work this week and only a couple of them turned out. We used RIT dye, powder and liquid, and then washed them in the machine on cold. Everyones’ faded and where it was once white, it turned green or purple..any suggestions?
Remember to use SODA ASH. It’s this stuff that prevents the color from fading. When you begin to tie dye, you want to get the shirt a little damp. Then you tie it up, and soak it in the soda ash for about 20 minutes. Then take it out, and dye it. After the dye is dry (after 12 hours) then rinse the color out first, and THEN remove the rubber bands. Some areas should remain white. Let it dry :]
