Track Bike

Track Bike
Is there any difference in a Track bike and a Fixed Gear (Fixie) Bike?

Like, is there a big difference in performance when you’re going to do tricks? I’m planning to buy one of those bikes later on in this year, but I don’t know if one of them would more likely fit my needs than the other. I’m 5’8″ if that will help any bit at all.

Well, let’s be clear.

Track bikes came first. They are afixed gear, but true “track bikes” have very steep geometry, very tight tolerances, and are made to be stiff and fast. Typically they are a lightweight steel, and are not intended to stand up to trick riding, nor can they do bar spins very well.

Conversions are old road bikes that have been fitted with a fixed gear wheel.

“Fixed Gear” is a whole branch of bicycles now, and alot of frames that are coming out are 100% fixed gear, but in no way a “Track bike”. Alot of frames are made for what is called “trick track”, where they have geometrys to allow bar spins, etc. They have the clearances fr largers tires, 700×40+, and they are made with materials similar to a BMX bike to withstand heavy abuse
