Vintage Creek
Can I sell a vintage bottle of port?

I have a bottle of Vintage Port 1981 which was bottled to commemorate the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Bottled By: Castle Wines
Style: Vintage Port
Variety: Shiraz
Area: Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek
Maker: Peter Lehmann
Signed by Oenologist: Scotty Ireland

The bottle is unopened but the red and gold label is a little worst for wear.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea if this bottle is worth much and if so, how would I go about selling it? I live in Sydney.

To start with you do NOT have a bottle of Port, and I don’t care whats on the label when I say this.

You have a “Port Style” fortified wine.

Port has to come from Portugal, specifically the Duoro valley, not South Australia.

As it’s not a proper Port I can’t see it being very valuable outside Australia.

A GOOGLE search of +port +peter +lehmann +1981 +charles +diana gives a list price of A$45.

That is retail – You would get at least 20% less than that trying to sell it privately.
