vintage schwinn tune up?
im very new to road bikes. ive got a vintage schwinn. bought it for five bucks. seems like a steal. im thinking its a varsity, but i really dont know the year.
its brakes seem to work great. other than the chipped dingy paint, seems like it needs nothing more than a tune up.
i want to know if its worth tuning up and using as a first road bike? (if it is i may never get another one! haha) new seat, grip tape, wheelset, etc. and even going so far as repainting it. or would that ruin the aesthetic of it as a classic?
Replace the things that don’t work. Anything beyond brake pads, cables, chain or tires is not worth it on a old bike. You can make adjustments to get everything working properly. If the bike fits and is comfortable to ride replace the saddle and handlebar tape and repaint.
