can i use sandpaper on newly painted wood to make the paint smoother or to just give the frame a vintage look?
i wanted to make a wooden picture frame look “vintage” but the white paint i used did not dry properly and is now clumpy. will using sandpaper on the edges make it look more vintage and help the clumpy look? if so, where should i use the sandpaper on the frame to make it look naturally worn?
You can only use sandpaper if you are going to repaint again. It’s primary puropse is to provide scratches for the paint to grip into.
So I would rub it down and start again. There are distressing techniques you can use when applying the paint, but they’re more of an interior designers fad/improvisation than something taught at decorators college. You could google for the info. It is pretty straight forward.
