Vmc Hook

I have a Compaq Presario SR2023, does it have an IEEE 1394 port?

Ok, I am wanting to hook my Sony Handycam (ccd-TRV138) up to my computer so I can record my video’s on DVD. I have found the cable I need at Sony and it says it is supposed to work with my camera. The cable is an VMC-IL4615 4.9″ i.LINKā„¢ Cable (4-pin to 6-pin), which says is supposed to work with my camera. Well, I want to make sure my computer has an IEEE 1394 port before I shell out the $40 for the cable. Does anyone know if using the cable hooked to my camcorder and then plugged into my computer (providing it has the port) would work? I do have Sonic Video/music editing/recording software on my computer, which makes DVD’s/CD’s. And if that setup would NOT work, can you tell me one that would? I can’t seem to find much information on what i.Link is, is that something different I have to buy for my computer in order for the cable to work? Thanks in advance!

You probably don’t have a firewire card in your computer, but look on the back of your computer and look at your USB hookups, then look and see if you have another connection that looks like USB only not as wide but thicker. The firewire cards are easy to install, take the case off your computer (make sure it is completely unplugged) and find a spare slot. They snap in. If it comes with software install that. Then you need a firewire cord to hook the camera to the computer.
