Is it super important that i blanket my horse?
I have a young tb mare recently off the track. She is still in that “track weight” and could gain a few lbs. I am not body clipping her this winter because shes in training and im not going to show her. I live in the North Tx area and this winter is supposed to be colder and wetter then normal. I ride her 4+ times a week, for a little over an hour each time. During the really cold days i will probably only ride her 3 or 4 times a wk. Well back to the point, I am not body clipping her although i wish i could but i pasture board her and i cant come out every morning before school to remove her blanket and there is noone at the barn that could do it for me. I cant stall board her because the barn is full, so is it bad that i cant blanket her? If i gets really freezing i will probably find a way to put her waterproof blanket on.
Skip blanketing her…
Texas weather is screwy… I live in central tx and I have seen many days where it goes from snow on the ground to hot like no body’s buisness…
If you were to blanket her when it was cold, if the blanket wasn’t water proof she could end up soaking wet from rain or snow and that’s not a pretty picture.. Or the weather could turn hot and she could over heat…
Its just thinking about turnin off cold, so just skip it… She’ll grow her winter coat just fine…
