Looking for a fun outdoor experience to do with my 14yr. son this summer?
I’d like to do some kind of wilderness trip for a few days with my son. I think he would really enjoy it. He spends most of his time playing xbox and running around the neighborhood with friends; but in the past he has gone to camps and liked riding horses. I took my wife whitewater rafting last summer and we had a lot of fun. I’m sure he would enjoy that too. We live in northern Alabama so I’m looking for something in the Southeast or atleast not more than a days drive away. The last tip him and I went on together was at the Gaylord hotel in Nashville. That wasn’t really roughing it. I’m thinking a wilderness trip would help to bond us better and open his eyes to the great outdoors. Sorry this was so long.
This summer, I’m going with some of my high school students that I teach to TN. We are going to be close to Gatlinburg. There are hiking trails and riding stables that you can go to. They also have touristy things like mini golf, Ripley museums, NASCAR, and Dollywood is about 10 mintues away in Pigeon Forge.
However, the highlight of our trip is going to be White Water Rafting on the Big Pigeon River. (this is about an hour away) Its not a hard level rapids and you can be as young as 12 y/o to paddle down the river (escorted of course).
